Area of interest (AOI) requirements
When submitting an order, the area of interest (AOI) must meet the following requirements:
- Maximum area: The AOI must not exceed 400 km2 in total area.
- Single polygon: The AOI must a single polygon.
- No holes: The polygon must not contain any holes or interior rings.
- Vertex limit: The polygon must have fewer than 10,000 vertices.
- Minimum width: The AOI must be greater than 5 kilometers in width at every point (i.e., no narrow segments).
- Maximum width: The AOI must be less than 25 kilometers in width in the East-West direction.
Wyvern's tasking system will accept orders that meet the above criteria and greater than 90% of the AOI can be collected in a single pass.
Orders that do not meet these requirements will be rejected by the system.
Wyvern's API currently accepts orders that fit on one collected scene (i.e. 400 km2). If you want to place an order greater than the maximum size, you can submit an order using our Order form.
AOI examples
Valid AOIs
A valid AOI with geodesic area of 97 km2 for premium tasking. After orbital simulation the order becomes accepted.
A valid AOI with geodesic area of 112 km2. After orbital simulation the order becomes accepted.
A valid AOI with geodesic area of 394 km2 for premium tasking. After orbital simulation the order becomes accepted.
Invalid AOIs
An invalid AOI with geodesic area of 513 km2. The order is not accepted and returns:

An invalid AOI with geodesic area of 88 sqkm for premium tasking. This AOI has a 500 m wide segment. The order is not accepted and returns:

An invalid AOI with geodesic area of 300 km2. This AOI is 36 km wide which is wider than the maximum AOI width. After orbital simulation the order becomes rejected.
